Team History and Awards
Fulton High School, founded in 1951 in Knoxville, Tennessee, fields athletic teams known as the Falcons, wearing maroon and white colors.
The Fulton football program is one of East Tennessee’s most decorated in the modern era. The Falcons have captured six TSSAA state championships: 2003, 2004, 2006, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Their three consecutive titles from 2012 through 2014 cemented Fulton as a dominant program in Class 4A.
The Falcons’ playoff record stands at 65–32 across 37 postseason appearances from 1967 through 2024. The program has also won multiple district and region championships, including dominant runs in the 2000s and early 2010s that saw Fulton rise as one of the premier football schools in Tennessee.
Team Highlights and Star Players
Zaevion Dobson (Class of 2015): A standout defensive back and leader for the Falcons. In December 2015, Dobson was tragically killed while shielding three girls from gunfire during a drive-by shooting in Knoxville. He was posthumously awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2016 ESPYs, presented by LeBron James. His story became a national symbol of heroism, and Fulton retired his No. 24 jersey in his honor.
Jackie Walker (Class of 1970): Star linebacker who became the first Black captain in SEC football history at the University of Tennessee. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1972. Remembered as a trailblazer for integration and leadership in college football.
Ron Widby (Class of 1963): A versatile multi-sport athlete who played football and basketball at Tennessee before an NFL career as a punter. Won Super Bowl VI with the Dallas Cowboys in 1972. Considered one of the most accomplished all-around athletes to come from Fulton.
Dennis Rogan (Class of 2007): Standout RB/DB for Fulton who went on to play at the University of Tennessee from 2007 through 2009. A key contributor for the Vols, starting multiple games in the secondary and on special teams.
