Team History and Awards
Sevier County High School, located at 1200 Dolly Parton Parkway in Sevierville, Tennessee, fields athletic teams known as the Smoky Bears, sporting purple and white colors. With an enrollment of approximately 1,247 students, Sevier County competes in TSSAA Division I Class 5A, Region 1. The school is also notable as the alma mater of country music legend Dolly Parton.
The 2024 season will forever be remembered as one of the greatest in Tennessee high school football history. The Smoky Bears captured their second state championship by defeating Page 27-20 in the Class 5A title game, completing a perfect undefeated season. This historic achievement came during the program’s 100th season of football, making it even more special for the Sevierville community. The championship was the program’s first state title since 1999, ending a 25-year drought. Head Coach Todd Loveday led the team through this remarkable season, establishing Sevier County as one of the premier programs in East Tennessee.
Team Highlights and Championship History
2024 State Champions: The Smoky Bears completed a perfect season and captured the Class 5A state championship with a 27-20 victory over Page. This marked the program’s first state title in 25 years and came during the 100th anniversary season of Sevier County football—a storybook ending to a historic campaign.
Championship History: Sevier County has won two TSSAA state championships in football—in 1999 and 2024. The quarter-century gap between titles makes the 2024 championship even more meaningful for the program and community.
Perfect Season Achievement: The 2024 undefeated season was the first perfect season in Sevier County football history, cementing the team’s legacy as one of the greatest in program history.
2025 Season Momentum: Coming off their championship season, the Smoky Bears enter 2025 with high expectations. Under Head Coach Todd Loveday and his experienced coaching staff including assistants Mark Chait, Dakota Cogdill, Logan McCarter, and Dustin McGill, the program looks to build on its recent success and establish sustained excellence.
Notable Alumni: Beyond football success, Sevier County High School is the alma mater of country music icon Dolly Parton and Sugarlands Distilling Company founder Edward (Ned) Vickers, demonstrating the school’s impact extends far beyond athletics.
